The North Shore Children’s Choir
was formed in February 2001 after it was found there was interest in the
community when advertising for auditions for a youth choir. The interest shown
was well beyond expectations.
As well as having their own annual
concert, the choir have been guests at various other performances. They
regularly compete at the North Shore Performing Arts Competitions and have
performed in church services, retirement villages, and events at the Bruce Mason Centre.
In 2002 the choir recorded two
vocal pieces for the Disney animated film ‘Lilo & Stitch’ and can be heard
on the movie soundtrack CD. In 2004 they
were a support choir in the Westlake combined production of ‘Joseph & The Technicolour Dreamcoat’ and for two years, performed for the Gabriel
Trust’s annual Christmas Concert for the Blind Institute alongside the St
Matthews Chamber Orchestra, Auckland Choral Society & Dame Malvina Major.
In 2009, the annual
concert of the North Shore Children's Choir and Junior Orchestra expanded to
involve the North Shore Songsters and the North Shore Youth Orchestra. We hope
this to be an ongoing venture and look forward to the 2010 concert to be held on
Saturday 19th June.
For the past few years, NSCC has performed
at the Milford Carols by Candlelight and hope to be asked to perform again this
year.
The Musical Director of the
choir is Vanessa Kay.
Members are aged from 9 - 12
years old. The choir is open to performance invitations.
