In
2009, North Shore Voices - a collection of choirs for young
people on the North Shore - was formed. The Youth Choir
is for young people aged 13 - 20 who want to sing in a fun,
relaxed, sociable atmosphere. Vanessa Kay the director of the
Youth Choir has been in charge of the North Shore Children's
Choir since 2001. NSCC was formed to fill a gap in the
community for young children who want to learn to sing in a
choir. In 2009 she expanded the North Shore Voices organisation into 3 choirs. Songsters, Children's Choir,
and the Youth Choir.
During 2009 the Youth
Choir performed a concert with the North Shore Youth
Orchestra at St Peter's, Killarney Street. This year they will
endeavour to perform choral works for both accompanied, and
unaccompanied choir at various locations throughout the
North Shore.
From 2010 - 2011 the
Youth Choir has grown in numbers, and is providing singers
across the region with an opportuinty to sing in a group
outside of school and university. 2012 looks set to be the
Youth Choirs most exciting yet, with members of the North
Shore Children's Choir graduating into the Youth Choir,
along with new members auditioning from across the region.
This promises to be a
very exciting year for choral music on the North Shore, and
a great time to get involved in singing!
